2009 Blue Demon Softball: Ready, Set, Scheduled.

All-American and 2008 BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year, Becca Heteniak returns for her junior year with DePaul.

All-American Becca Heteniak was named 2008 BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year.

The DePaul softball team is gearing up for the 2009 season—and it looks to be a toughie. The Blue Demons will be facing nine USA Today/NFCA Top 25 teams and 13 teams that played in the 2008 NCAA Championship games.

“This is by far one of our toughest schedules as the tournament portion is highlighted with big names, including the 2008 National Champion Arizona State,” head coach Eugene Lenti says in a press release from DePaul Athletics.

Lenti’s probably happy to welcome back his returning pitchers Becca Heteniak, Lauren Frankiewicz and Lindsey Dean. Together, the trio earned the 24th best ERA (1.62) in the country last season. All-American third baseman Amber Patton also returns to play her senior season with DePaul.

The Blue Demons start the 2009 season against Southern Miss on Feb. 13 at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic hosted by UNLV, Feb. 13-15. The first home game for our home team is slated for March 21 against St. John’s.
