A Few (Poetic) Words About Obama

14 Jan

There once was a man named Barack,
In politics he went to the top.
In this historic time
The poets used rhyme
You can hear them at DePaul when they talk.  — by hsvo

A Writer's CongressOk, obviously I’m not going to be slamming… but 20 poets (who were actually published) will be reading their poems about soon-to-be President Obama.

On Jan. 20, DePaul University will host a reading by 20 of the poets included in “A Writers’ Congress: Chicago Poets on Barack Obama’s Inauguration.”

Editor Chris Green, poet and visiting fellow at the DePaul Poetry Institute, put out a call asking writers to create poems that would help capture the historic nature of Obama’s election and inauguration — and more than 75 poets are featured in the anthology.

Award-winning author Stuart Dybek says on the book jacket:

“These poems celebrate both the hope embodied in the man, Barack Obama, and a renewed hope for the promise of American democracy. ”

For a limited time, “A Writers’ Congress” will be offered FREE! To order your copy, just e-mail your name and mailing address to aperson@depaul.edu. (Limit one book per person.)

The reading, presented by UniVerse of Poetry,  is free and open to the public. A limited number of books will be available at the event.
